Joao Miyao wasn't handed anything in life. Growing up as a third generational Japanese descendant, his father was a humble farmer and his mother was a housewife. At the age of 16, Joao and his twin brother Paulo found #bjj and moved to Cicero Costha's social project, living on the mats. There they trained, day and night, perfecting their game. They began modeling it after the World Champions Rafa and Gui Mendes. Success came slow at first, winning local tournaments. Then they began entering national tournaments often competing & winning in the absolute divisions. With victories there, they caught the attention of sponsors and were able to compete in the larger tournaments. At the World's they won Gold as a Purple then as a Brown. Now they shoot for Gold as a Black Belt.
If there's one thing you can take away from Joao, it's his unwavering work ethic. When asked what led to their success, Joao summed it up, "We just train." If your chasing the Gold in your life, whether it's surfing, jiu jitsu, or work... hard work beats talent. And that's why we're stoked to fuel Joao's journey. #athOhana #HempGold
