"I see the World, as a Coach, is to set an environment where people are comfortable losing. And for new males that's difficult." - John Kavanagh
The key to getting better is keeping your ego in check and working on your weaknesses. To do so you must not be afraid to lose. In fact, the more you tap, the faster you'll learn because you are liberating yourself from your ego. When a high level wrestler comes in, work on your wrestling with him, or when a high level Judoka comes in, train stand up with him. An atmosphere where you are able to experiment without being afraid to lose will allow you to progress faster than anything else.
Too many times I see a high level belt come into the gym and the majority of the students avoid him because they don't want to be tapped out. Do you want to be the big fish of the little pond? If you want to get good fast, get tapped a lot.
