One of the main reasons I go to seminars is to hear old school stories. I can learn the latest techniques from anywhere but getting first hand knowledge of what it was like to train in the early 90's or the philosophies of the art is priceless.
Chris Haueter was promoted to black belt by Rigan Macahado in 1996 and is one of the first American black belts. His stories about training before Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became popular are fascinating to listen to. It's almost like stepping back into a nostalgic karate kid era where there were so many mysteries.
